I interviewed for the Frontend Developer role at SafetyConnect. I enjoyed my first three interactions with the team members which included the phone screening, HR, and technical rounds. But the final interview with the co-founder left a sour taste in my mouth. The interview and the interviewer’s attitude were sub-par. He arrived late to the meeting and his first comment was about his looks, he said that he looked weird from that camera angle and went about adjusting himself. He did a good job grilling me but his questions were condescending.
I explained that currently, I am helping out my mom with her boutique website, to which he asked how serious was my mom about all this. I do not understand how it was relevant to the interview. If he wanted to know how long I was going to work on that project, he could just have asked that. When we got to salary negotiation, he said “your experiences are not relevant”. I was shocked as to why I made it to that round if my experiences were irrelevant. When asked to clarify, he said that there were many other candidates with a lot more experience and were better than me. Then he abruptly said that it wouldn’t be a good fit and ended the call without giving me an opportunity to ask him a single question. To sum up, he was arrogant and disrespectful. This was the worst interview I have ever had.
The team was good and I was excited about the role but it is a shame that the leadership is the way it is. I wish the team all the very best.
