I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Klaviyo (Boston, MA) in Jan 2019
Interview
I started the first interview on January, and got the final result on March. It has been a really great learning experience. I have been interviewing 6 rounds including phone screening, take-home design challenge, onsite presentation, talk with design manager, the director of product, product manager, engineer and talk with the CEO. Through the long process I got to like the company more and more, but also more and more confused because no hr involved the whole time. I've never been informed how long the process I should expect and what the whole process would be like. So I kept receiving "next steps" emails after rounds of rounds interviews. I love all the challenges I was asked to take though. I believe they only want the best of best so that the process was so complicated. The office environment and the people are all very nice. All the people I met did the homework about my background before the interviews but except for the director of the product. He seemed reading my resume for the first time when we having the conversation.
I feel very very confused about the reason why I didn't get the job. Because I got positive feedback and hints all the way but in the end I was told a reason that can hardly make me believe that they told the truth. So for me, it has been a really great while time-consuming learning experience. But I believe the huge potential behind this company and would love to have opportunity to corporate in the future.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Why do you want to work for Klaviyo?
What's your most proud of project?
What are you looking for in your next role?
Do you have experience working with engineer?
What's your favorite app?
Tell me a time when you disagree a design decision.
I had a phone screening with the recruiter. The process was very smooth. It's a 30-min introduction to help you and the company know each other. The recruiter asked why I'm looking for new opportunities and why I'm interested in Klaviyo. Then he moved on to ask about some of my past experiences, like how I used AI in the design process, what projects I had worked on, and how I collaborate with cross-functional teams. He also introduced the team's dynamics and what they value about this role. I'm allowed to ask quwsrions in the end.
The interview process was great! The recruiter was readily available to answer all questions and consistently checked in. Multiple interviews with different designers on the team, consisting of a case study, app critique, culture interview, a hiring manager interview, and an interview with the VP of the team.
The interview process consisted of a portfolio screen with design manager and lead designer, interview with crossfunctional partners (prod + eng) on how you collaborate, and an app crit (i was asked to provide 3 and the interviewer picked 1)
