I applied online. I interviewed at Last Call Media (Boston, MA) in May 2026
Interview
The interview process was split into two sections. First, candidates were asked to describe how they would call an API endpoint and display data. This could be done in any programming language, as the goal was to evaluate reasoning and problem-solving.
The second part was a take-home assessment consisting of several small issues to fix, including an end-to-end test, a Jest function, a logic issue inside a file, and a TypeScript configuration problem.
Candidates were instructed not to use AI tools, although realistically many applicants probably will. The important part is understanding the code well enough to explain your reasoning and implementation decisions.
Despite some time spent dealing with configuration setup, the assessment itself was fairly manageable.
The overall process took several weeks.

Question 1
Something that i proposed to the team that would benefit the work environment
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Last Call Media (Rome) in Mar 2025
Interview
I had an initial interview, followed by a take-home assessment, and then another interview to go over my assessment/ answer general questions about my work history. One of the two interviewers during my second interview had to leave after 15 minutes for another meeting and the other had me literally explain things from my assessment, not to test me, but because he didn't understand the networking concepts.
All of that was fine, but like another reviewer said, after the second interview I received a generic response (not from any of the people that I had talked to) telling me that they were not moving forward with my application and "It is our policy not to give specific feedback to candidates." I followed up saying that I would appreciate a little feedback given the amount of time I spent interviewing with them and completing the assessment. I did get a response, but it was more generic than the first.
I find their behavior very disrespectful and insulting. I also think it reflects the general atmosphere of the company, or at least what I could gather after going through the process. Don't waste your time with them.

Question 1
"What does layer 4 and layer 7 mean? I'm not a networking guru." - I'm paraphrasing, but this is what I was asked from the guy that was supposed to be reviewing my assessment to see if I was technically competent.

Hiring manager was very nice and turn off his camera in the live coding exercise and reassured me that live coding isn't a representation of acutal coding in the workplace. They will ask a hypothetical work scenario question to see how you would approach it.
