I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Macy's in Aug 2010
Interview
A very simple type of interview. I submit my application online and was sent an e-mail saying I had qualified for an interview and I was to choose my interview date. I chose the most convenient day available and showed up on the day an hour early to find that my interview had been postponed an hour. One hour later I arrive at the office and sit down. Not one second later am I greeted by a manager and escorted to their office. I handed her my resume, she glanced at it quickly, and began to ask me questions. The questions were simple: Why Macy's? How would your coworkers describe you? How do you react when you see someone doing something wrong?
I was then asked which department I would have liked to work in. Then, the manager for that deparment arrived and asked me why I would like to work in said department. After that, a paper was being filled out and I was asked my time availability. On the paper my hourly wage was already filled in by the manager and all I had to do was fill out my preferred availability and sign/initial a few things. Done.
Was interviewed for a seasonal position. Was told they have no seasonal positions, once they found out I was a college student. Made no sense to me quickly ended the interview.
The interview process was straightforward and fairly quick. It started with a phone interview from a recruiter or hiring representative who asked general questions about my background, availability, and interest in the role. The tone was professional but conversational, and the interviewer focused on making sure I could handle a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.
I had one interview with the store manager and it lasted for about 45 minutes. The interview was all standard behavioral questions. I was offered the job on the spot.
