I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Microsoft in Mar 2024
Interview
The process was fairly disorganised. I applied in January, but only heard back late February. I found a job in the meantime, but accepted the HR call out of curiosity. The (external) rep didn't have that much info on that position and we decided on me asking for a follow-up after I settle into my new position a bit more. That decision was ignored as, about 2 weeks later, I got an e-mail asking to schedule for the 3 technical-ish interviews.
I was still curious what the position entailed, so we scheduled the interviews on 3 consecutive days. The first one went alright, I messed up the second one. The interviewers were pleasant and professional. However, the 3rd interviewer didn't show up. I gave up after waiting for about 20 minutes and sent an inquiry to the HR rep. I got an automated e-mail the next day that I had been rejected, but there was no feedback or anything. This level of disregard definitely left a sour taste in my mouth.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
1) mock PR review (of a clearly terrible PR)
bunch of managerial communication-related questions
2) algo based question - basically binary search, but with gaps that should be used when inserting new values
time-management and task-blocking related questions
3) Dunno, the interviewer did not show up
Started with a recruiter phone call and a 30 minute phone call with the hiring manager to negotiate a remote role since the job was based in Seattle and the manager agreed. Following up with five rounds of virtual on site. Four of them are coding/design. One of them is behavioral mostly leetcode medium level questions which I finished and I was able to do all the follow up and answer the design and time complexity questions correctly after the interview got ghosted for a whole month and got an automatic rejection email.
