I’m writing to express my thoughts on my recent interview process for the Senior Graphic Designer position. Unfortunately, my experience with the process wasn't the best, and I feel it’s important to share this feedback.
My first interview was with the Head of Design, rather than an HR representative. While this was unconventional, I understood it and it was fine. After that, I was given a case to work on, which included creating five files and providing both the open and final files to assess my technical skills. However, I was not provided with any materials, such as a logo or font, and was told by HR that I would need to find them myself. While I was okay with this, I found it a bit unusual.
After completing the case study and submitting it within the 7-day deadline, I received a standard email saying, “Sorry, we found another candidate.” While I understood the rejection, I was curious to receive feedback on my work, so I reached out, but never received a response.
I feel this lack of communication is quite disappointing. I invested a lot of time and effort into this process, and I was expecting a more personal approach or at least some constructive feedback. Unfortunately, the lack of engagement from the HR team has left me with a negative impression of the company.
I believe that if a company aims to create a beloved brand, it should consider the full experience and the way it interacts with candidates. This experience has certainly made me reconsider my relationship with the brand, and I am unlikely to be a customer in the future.
It's not about the rejection itself, but the attitude towards people who invest time and resources into your process. If feedback isn’t something you’re able to provide, perhaps reconsider the task requirements or find other ways to evaluate candidates' skills.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Motel a Miio (Munich, Bavaria) in Jul 2021
Interview
