      Trainee Sub-Editor Interview

      11 Sept 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at New Scientist in Apr 2022

      Interview

After I completed the application, I had to complete a subbing exercise with a specific deadline. Next, I was invited to the first round of interviews, which lasted approximately 30 minutes. The interview panel included the Chief Sub-Editor and an Editor, both of whom were very friendly. This round primarily focused on getting to know me better, understanding my career goals, and assessing whether my aspirations aligned with the goals of New Scientist. The second round of interviews was competency-based and also lasted about 30 minutes. I, unfortunately, did not get an offer but the whole process took about 4-5 weeks in total.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at New Scientist (London, England) in Mar 2022

      Interview

Soon after I submitted my application, I was sent a short subbing exercise to be completed in four days. A representative from DMGT was my point of contact and they were highly responsive to my emails (a very nice touch!). I was then invited for a half hour video interview with two interviewers, who were friendly. I received a rejection around a week after the interview. If I had been successful, there would have been another interview. The whole process from application to decision took a little over a month.
