I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Nordstrom (Roseville, CA) in Oct 2015
Interview
Application process was done online. Nordstrom recruiting generates automatic replies to candidates so if you fit the bill for the position you will hear back very quickly. I applied and received email confirmation of my application right away. Within an hour I received a second email stating they were interested and would like to schedule a phone interview. I scheduled a phone interview online to a date and time of my choosing (from the selection of dates/times available) which spanned one week and began as early as the following day (so 1 day after I applied I was conducting my first interview via phone). The phone interview was 1 question, what was my availability like? I had completely open availability so she congratulated me on making it to the next round, an in person interview on site with the department manager to be conducted later that week (4 days after phone interview). I was told the in person interview was scheduled to last 2 hours, however, I interviewed and was downstairs shopping all within 15 minutes. Very simple, straightforward questions, totally relaxed and relatable interviewer. This was on a Friday. The following Monday I received a phone call with a job offer. I accepted and attended the new hire orientation the very next day. The day after that was my first training shift. The whole process was very speedy and organized, which makes the job hunting process a lot less painful.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Strengths? Weaknesses? Name a specific time when you made a mistake on the job and how did you go about it?
Simple and to the point. Very informative of the role and responsibilities. Interviewer was welcoming and quick to get back to you afterwards. Hired within same week of the interview
It was very ordinary questions, nothing unexpected. They wanted to hear about my prior experience, how I felt about working independently and my work ethic. I did receive a job offer at the interview, but I really loved everything about Nordstrom. It was a great place to work.
Its a one-stage interview process. The recruiter will ask you a set of questions about your background, what you would do in a stressful situation, have you ever worked with people. So far interview lasted for about 15-20 minutes.
