The PBS NewsHour conducts a phone interview where the hiring manager asks candidates about their goals, their qualifications and interest in the position and the program. The company will conduct a current event quiz and an examination of the PBS NewsHour program by phone. This is all basic knowledge. I passed all requests and was not hired by the PBS NewsHour and WETA. For aspiring television news reporters, news anchors, multi-media journalists(MMJ) and news producers out there, the PBS NewsHour does not provide none of its employees the opportunity to make a news anchor reel tape, a news reporter reel tape, and/or news producer reel tape. The PBS NewsHour does neither have the money, the equipment nor resources available. Find another news assistant position at another news media company as the PBS NewsHour does not provide this.
It is very difficult to be admitted into the news assistant programs (broadcast, digital/online, and social media) as it is very competitive. The PBS NewsHour will not informed applicants specifically why they weren't accepted and why their application has been declined. This program and this company constantly suffers from budget cuts on a consistent, regular basis. The PBS NewsHour has limited resources for all candidates/applicants and all employees.
