      Underwriter Interview

      20 Feb 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at PENNYMAC in Feb 2026

      Interview

Pretty standard questions. I was interviewed by 2 people but really only one of them asked questions. Many questions specifically testing my guidebook/underwriting knowledge with specific and common underwriting scenarios. Asked about my history/experience. Asked about why I applied at PNMC

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What would your process be if you were reviewing W2 income/paystub and you suspected borrower owned the business? What would your process be if you noticed a borrower was buying another primary residence within a year of buying their current primary residence within 50 miles of current primary? Where is this specific info found on tax return?

      Underwriter Interview

      10 May 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

      I interviewed at PENNYMAC

      Interview

The process took months, possibly 4-5 months. The first interview they scheduled they didn't show up for or call. Then they wanted to me impromptu take the interview hours later like I should be on standby all day. It took them close to a month to reschedule, which they did on two separate occasions. The kept asking me to redo documents I had already done and they said they received my assessment but later wanted me to take it again. The process was extremely disorganized, teetering on bizarre. I finally interviewed, which was very casual, and I thought it went well. Then about 2-3 months after the interview finally happened they emailed me that they went with someone else, which I of course had assumed since so much time had passed. If their company is ran anything like this interview process I think I dodged a bullet.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

There were no challenging questions in the interview, the challenge was getting someone from their team to show up for an interview.
