      Head of Talent Acquisition Interview

      22 Aug 2025

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Phamily (New York, NY) in Jul 2025

      Interview

In 2024 I saw a Talent Acquisition role posted and I reached out to the CFO, whom I had met previously. Over the next 7 months we kept in touch and in May 2025 the CFO arranged for me to have 4 interviews for the “internal recruiting role”, which included meeting an HR/Recruiting consultant, CTO, HR Director, and COO. The first 4 interviews went extremely well and I was asked by the Chief of Staff for my availability to meet the CEO for a final interview. At the last second, I was asked to meet the CFO to review the responsibilities and goals. I met the CFO in person the next day for my 5th interview, where he informed me on the spot that the job description has changed and this was no longer a Head of Talent Acquisition role, but a Head of Talent role covering recruiting and all of HR. With no prior notice or ability to prep, the CFO began to ask me scenario questions pertaining to the new job description and then would text on his phone while I spoke. At the completion of every answer he would look in my eyes and stare me down in silence for 5-10 seconds to see if he could break me, which he explained at the end was to stress test me. During the interview he also bad mouthed existing employees that I had previously interviewed with. At the conclusion of the interview the CFO said to email him my questions since he didn’t give me time to ask any. He also mentioned my unscheduled interview with the CEO and that he was rooting for me. The interview experience with him was unprofessional and disrespectful with an overall arrogant demeanor. Although highly discouraged by his behavior, I still decided to send him my thank you note and follow up questions the next day to clarify the updated role. I never received a reply back from the CFO. I followed up with a voicemail to him and received no reply. I followed up with a text to the COO and received no reply. The Chief of Staff never emailed me back to let me know I was no longer meeting with the CEO. I had a total of 5 interviews, taking over 5 hours of my time and never received any communication from the organization at all. I have never in my career in Talent Acquisition as a recruiter, recruiting leader, or candidate treated anyone this way or have been treated by any organization this way. I ultimately decided to let it go because I would never want to work for or trust a company that treated me in such a disrespectful and callous manner.
