I had the worst interview experience with the Pittock Mansion (April 2025 and June 2025.) I applied for an Administrative Assistant position they posted this past spring and was contacted to interview. After interviewing, I sent a follow up email but didn't hear anything back. Several weeks later, the CEO reached out about a new opening she thought I would be a good fit for. She went on to describe it as a writing and editing position for some books they wanted to publish internally. This sounded like a great opportunity as my degree is in Writing and I have experience in several positions with editing. I go in for the interview and sit down with the CEO, she looks at my resume and goes: "oh that editing position wasn't for you, I meant that for someone else." She then goes on to describe a completely different position; a part time, seasonal position making crafts for kids on Sundays. Let me be clear, there's nothing wrong with this job but I don't have anything on my resume that is related to working with children. It was so unprofessional and insulting. I never received a full job description for this new position, at one point they were even calling it an internship. Literally no idea what their vision was for this job but I didn't want any part of it.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What kind of children's program would you like to see implemented at Pittock Mansion? (Mind you I thought I was interviewing for an editing job)
I applied online. I interviewed at Pittock Mansion (Portland, OR) in Apr 2025
Interview
I applied for their admin assistant position and was quickly contacted to have a zoom interview with the CEO. A few days after that, they emailed back to schedule an in-person interview. Both seemed to go well and at the end of the in-person interview, the CEO asked for a writing sample and references (which I had already sent as part of the application but evidently she or her assistant weren't on the same page so I sent them again) then I never heard back. After about a week of no response, I emailed a follow-up to make sure they had everything and if there was trouble contacting my references or something like that--and nothing. It's now been about a month since I interviewed and I still haven't heard anything, even after my follow-ups. I think it's so unprofessional to not say anything, even a short sorry we've gone another route. I also had previously volunteered at PM and it feels especially thoughtless to treat your community members and volunteers in this way being that PM is a non-profit that needs volunteers. The position is still open on their website and said ideal start date early March, obviously that's not happening, so be warned if you apply they might just drop you without another word.

Question 1
How good are you with technology and training others?
I applied online. I interviewed at Pittock Mansion (Portland, OR) in Jan 2021
Interview
They were very nice and asked follow up questions. It was a virtual interview because of COVID and it was set up with ease. The entire interview took maybe 45 minutes.
