I interviewed at San Ramon Valley Unified School District (San Ramon, CA)
Interview
Online application. They needed a resume and cover letter. No interview really except for just a few informal questions… basically you just needed to meet the criteria. You need to get your emergency 30 substitution license and have a 4 year degree.

I applied online. I interviewed at San Ramon Valley Unified School District (Danville, CA) in Jan 2016
Interview
Applied online. Took almost 3 months to finally start working. Need to pay money for two sets of fingerprints and 30-day credential every year you sub. You also, of course, get a background check, but I can't remember if you had to pay for that too.
Brief, 10 minute interview with one of the school's principals at district office. Asked some basic questions, basically making sure you're not a nut job.
