      Technical Recruiter Interview

      11 Apr 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Francisco, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Slack (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2016

      Interview

I had 2 phone screens then an onsite interview. The onsite interview was with the HR leader, Engineering manager, and a few people on their recruiting team. The interviews had next to no questions pertaining to the job itself. No questions re: my recruitment process or relevant experience. I got the sense the team thinks they've all literally "made it" by working there. Even though the average tenure of each was under a year at the company. One of the telling themes of the meeting was that the recruiting team was starting from scratch (bad sign). They also seem pre-occupied with diversity hiring with a lot of focus on putting the onus on the recruiter vs. having the directive be top down. They come across as a haphazardly assembled team by people who leveled up in a tight market. Their team is no different than any other big tech company. But hey, they got the free La Croix - all you can drink!!

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Slack

      Interview

Initial with Technical Recruiter, I have never had such a disingenius experience. Followed up with a canned rejection email. I highly suggest leading with empathy. Slack has a long way to go and needs to hire better recruiters

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Slack (New York, NY) in Mar 2021

      Interview

I was referred for the role. Had an initial call with the recruiter, then a Zoom interview with a manager then 2 more Zoom interviews. It took 2 weeks to get a decision though I was initially told I would have a decision in a week's time. Overall it was a positive experience and I was kept updated during the process. Really enjoyed my conversations.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

questions were mainly behavioral and focused on the skills required for the role. Challenging client and candidate experiences.

      Anonymous employee
      San Francisco, CA

      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Slack (San Francisco, CA)

      Interview

The interview process felt warm and organic. The team had done their research on my background and asked relevant questions. I left the interview excited about the opportunity to join Slack. After working at a couple of techs top Giants, Slack provides a much more personal experience.
