Swamp Rabbit Cafe and Grocery has a lovely community. The people are wonderful. The mission is great. My interview process? Not so much.
1) I was blindsided by two additional interviewers. Not the end of the world, but it is courteous to let your applicant know they will appear before a panel.
2) one of my interviewers must have been having a terrible day. Their demeanor was ice cold and aloof. I almost stopped the interview to ask if I offended them so I could apologize. You don’t have to be all sunshine and daisies, but being that rude and off-putting is frankly disrespectful.
3) Swamp Rabbit Cafe and Grocery is (by their own admission) focused on hiring people who want to make a career out of working there. Grocery is a great career (so is coffee, so is bakery, and so on). No shame in the game. However, it’s unrealistic and unfair to spring that on interviewees mid interview. I’m loathe to lie - but it seems like what would’ve been the appropriate action to move forward in the process. At least put it in your job description.
Ultimately the whole thing seemed like a waste of time.
