I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at TJ Maxx (State College, PA) in Jun 2016
Interview
I applied in store and received a call about a week later to set up an interview. The interview was very easy and to my surprise lasted about 5 minutes. At the end I felt confident that my interview went well but then the interviewer informed me that she was not the Interviewing Manager. She was in fact a regular Manager. She went on to say that the Interviewing Manager would be back tomorrow and that she would show her the notes that she had taken on me and that I would receive a call or letter within the next few weeks telling me if I got the job. I received a letter a week later stating that they would be pursing other candidates. Although the interview process was both simple and pleasant, I feel that I was not given a fair chance because I didn't actually speak to the Interviewing Manager. Once the interviewer told me that she wasn't the Interviewing Manager it all made sense. Throughout the interview she wasn't at all engaging and merely read off a list of questions. She asked only 4 or 5 questions and I don't really think that she was adequately able to determine my personality because the questions were so cut and dry. None of the questions gave me the opportunity to give a more in depth response or show my character. She only asked me one question about a past experience which allowed me to display my personality as pertaining to customers. She didn't at all appear to be comfortable playing the role of interviewer which makes since because that wasn't her job. Why ask me to come in for an interview on a day when the Interviewing Manager isn't present?
