The process was pretty simple. Initial phone interview, then in-person interview. I read all the negative reviews here on glassdoor prior to the interview, and by and large i believe the assessment by these reviewers were on point.
When i went in to interview, I met with the guy (Name withheld) who has been there for 14 years. He was a bit stern at first but warmed up as the interview progress. In the end, he asked basic technical questions like how restful services work, how i keep track of my developers, how hands-on i was etc. Next, was an interview with the infamous owner. I waited in the interview room for 10 minutes before the HR person came in to inform me that the owner was held up solving an issue for a customer (reg flag for how chaotic the place is), and that we need to reschedule this interview. Also, she mentioned that the 2nd in-person interview with the owner will be scheduled based on feedback on the just ended first in-person interview.
A week passed, and i heard nothing. So, I sent an email asking for feedback etc. They responded with times i could choose from for the second in-person interview. I selected a time and then prepared for the interview with the owner.
INTERVIEW WITH OWNER
I thought the interview went very well. we had a good rapport and he even asked how soon i could start if offered the job. However, based on my discussion with him, i confirmed for myself that the management style at Thatcher was more like that of a dictatorship. Everything had to be approved by the owner. He even had to approve the number and duration of scrum meetings for instance - This is the job of the application manager, not the owner!
On top of that his schedule is hectic and he can become unavailable in an instant - meaning you can't make critical decisions on you own while he is unavailable. Also, he bends over backwards for his customers, which is not bad in and of itself, but because of that developers can potentially stay in past 8pm. He did mention to me that he disapproves of employees leaving at 5pm! The look on my face when he said that was probably the reason i wasn't offered the job. hahahahaaaa. I have little kids i need to pick up from daycare by 6pm, staying in the office past 8pm is ridiculous.
I didn't get the job for some reason, but i don't care. I probably dodged a bullet here. Sounds like nightmarish place to work.
Buyers Beware!
