Intense process, role misrepresented, high autonomy expected
The interview process for the Senior 3D/Motion Designer (Gifts & Effects) role was extremely intensive. It involved multiple interviews across an eight-hour time difference and a design test lasting 10 days. One of the interviews took place at 6 a.m. to accommodate the interviewer’s time zone. You are expected to manage the entire creative pipeline independently, from concept and 3D asset creation to animation, lighting, environment design, AI-assisted enhancements, and interactive elements.
The role itself felt more like a leadership position than a senior designer role. Responsibilities included project direction, stakeholder management, and balancing creative output with business metrics, which was not clearly reflected in the job description. The interviewer also mentioned that success in the role would be tied to metrics based on the commercial value of the gifts produced ( revenue generated by your design) , which places a stronger focus on business performance than creative exploration.
The interviewers were professional, although one never introduced themselves, which made parts of the process feel impersonal. The emphasis on efficiency metrics and bridging gaps between teams highlighted that the expectation is to handle both creative and operational leadership, often with little infrastructure or support in place.
Overall, this is a role for someone highly experienced and comfortable with autonomy and leadership under tight deadlines. Be aware that the advertised “senior designer” title does not fully capture the level of responsibility expected.
Pros:
• Opportunity to work on globally impactful projects
• Exposure to innovative tools and workflows, including AI integration
Cons:
• Misalignment between job title and actual responsibilities
• Very high workload and autonomy expected
• Interview process is intense and time-consuming, especially across time zones. It was about 2-3 months from applying to result.
