      Software Engineer Interview

      8 Feb 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bristol, England
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Toumetis (Bristol, England) in Feb 2021

      Interview

I was approached by their in-house recruiter for a full-stack Javascript consulting role. In the first call, I outlined my salary expectations upfront. They arranged an initial interview with a developer and the director of consulting, where they assessed my personality and attitude. Then they gave me a three-hour take home technical challenge, involving Node.js and PostgreSQL. After this was another interview to discuss my approach to the challenge. They said I was a 'rising star' and gave me lots of positive feedback. They put me in front of their client (which was 'unprecedented'). Immediately after meeting the client, they offered me 28% less than the salary I expected. I rejected this offer. The following working day, they made a slightly improved offer. This was still significantly below my expectation, so I suggested arranging another meeting so I could present some ideas and show the value I could bring. The same day, they rescinded the offer because it was 'unprofessional' of me to suggest meeting the client again, despite having been put in front of the client just a couple of days earlier.

      27 Apr 2020
      Anonymous employee
      Bristol, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Toumetis (Bristol, England) in Sept 2019

      Interview

I was contacted by a third-party recruiter, the company urgently needed a frontend developer. After our screening phone-call, I was talking to one of the managers of Toumetis the next day. We discussed my career, and gave some brief technical questions. Afterwards, they wanted me to come in to their office two days later for a 1-1. We discussed more about myself and what I can bring to the company. I was given a brief JavaScript challenge, and also a pair-programming test to debug & improve a dummy React app. I was also given a whiteboard test to design the architecture of an app of my choosing. After my interview, my recruiter phoned me 30 minutes later to tell me I have been given an offer.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Name your favourite social media platform. Now, briefly explain/demonstrate how you would design the full architecture, from backend to React app.
