I applied in-person. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Trader Joe's (Scottsdale, AZ) in Sept 2017
Interview
The first quick interview took place when I dropped off my resume and application. It was nice and quick and the worker and I got along really well so he scheduled me to come in a few days later to meet with other managers.
I came back and got together with the managers who were very nice but the room I was taken to was the creepiest little back room. I spent a good hour talking with two managers back there and the one thing that struck me as odd was they kept reiterating that I needed to be able to lift 50lb, which I most assuredly can and told them that and gave multiple references to other jobs where lifting heavy equipment was needed. Maybe they were judging me by how I look?
When it ended I got the feeling it went well but they still wouldn’t hire me and a week later I got the call I was expecting. As I always do when I get a call back saying they went in another direction I asked “Could you give me feedback so I may improve on my interview skills.” This is where it got weird. The guy quickly and quite awkwardly stammered out that they “weren’t privy” to tell me anything about myself and that Trader Joe’s doesn’t give out personal information. It was the shadiest way of saying “we don’t want to be sued so don’t ask.” A lie would have been better and I can’t be the first person to ask for feedback. This last interaction kind of soured me on the whole store. Probably won’t be going back to shop there.
The interview process was absolutely wonderful! I didn't feel stressed or nervous and it felt like I was just chatting with a friend! Trader Joes is a great company and the interview was great.
Very chill, asked things a lot of job interviews don't, more personal down to earth questions. Made me feel very comfortable. Professional but also cool vibes from everyone who interviewed me. Went to one interview with mates and another with the captain.
I had 3 separate interviews. 1 was over the phone. 2 were in person. I never heard anything after the third interview. I called the store about a week later and they let me know they didn’t actually have any available positions. Really felt like they wasted my time.
