I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at United Airlines (Chicago, IL) in Mar 2016
Interview
Began the process by filling out an online apllication. Within a few days, received a call from United to schedule a face to face interview. One thing to keep in mind when the interview is scheduled is to plan your time so you are not late for your interview. Arrive with at least 15 minutes to spare. Once I arrived at the interview I was met by 2 employees from the company. Always smile and greet them with good eye contact. Dress professionally. Suit and tie for the guys. Dress suit for the ladies. Prior to the interview practice the STAR format. If you prepare, you will do fine. Relate your prior or current job experiences to how those skills and experiences can be carried over to the respective position. Be yourself. Good luck.
Update:05/16. So I wanted to provide an update for those who may be applying for the Ramp service agent position and what to expect after the initial job offer. After I completed the interview, I was called about a week later by the HR dept from NJ with a "conditional job offer". It's conditional because there are many more phases you must go through. After the call, I had to go and do the physical strength training. This requires specific use of legs and arms to ensure you have the physical ability to complete the job tasks of a ramp service agent. Once this was completed, a week later I was called to send all background info in to begin this process, i.e. USPS, and others. After doing this, I was contacted to complete a drug screen/physical. Physical consisted of a vision test and hearing test. A week or so after this, I was then instructed to go for the FBI fingerprinting. Remember all of these "next steps" are contingent on you passing each prior step to move on. So it's May and I am awaiting the next step in the process. I'll keep everyone posted. Good luck!
