I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at United Airlines in Mar 2023
Interview
Applied online and then had a phone screen with HR. Second round consisted of a 1 on 1 case study as well as a group excel exam that was proctored.
For the case study you are given a prompt about a project United is thinking of doing and then asked how would you go about analyzing for a solution. Mine was determining if they should retrofit their planes to include 50% more overhead storage because of how many carry-on bags have to be gate checked. There is no data available even when you ask for it, so there is no right answer. I laid out how I would calculate the npv of the project.
The group excel test is 45 mins. You have to run an analysis and write a mock email to the sender of the request. The analysis requires taking the current monthly revenue per fleet and calculating post capex revenue based on total planes, total flights and increased ticket costs, per fleet. You also need to calculate the delta to determine which fleet should be upgraded first.
I had to follow up to get a decision in which I was denied the job due to the fact that my scores did not permit me to move on. Asked for my scores/what I did wrong and never received anything. The actual interview process was enjoyable, but not receiving feedback on how I scored too poorly to move on is frustrating.
I applied in-person. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at United Airlines (Chicago, IL) in Jun 2020
