I interviewed at Walmart in July 2022 for the Software Engineer role (focus on React). The process took 6-7 weeks. There was a total of 4 rounds:
Round 1 - Recruiter reaches out:
I initially applied to Walmart Global Tech in February 2022 but failed the Technical Interview. A recruiter reached out to me again in June 2022 and told me that they got my profile on the database and would like to schedule a phone call to discuss the opportunity.
Round 2 - Technical Interview:
The recruiter helped me schedule a Technical Interview with a third-party service (Karat). The interview started with a 1-minute self-introduction, followed by 10 minutes of short-answer questions, then concluded with 45 minutes of coding challenges. The coding session was easy-medium level Leetcode algorithm questions. I solved the first problem entirely, but only had enough time to discuss the solution to the second one. I tried to schedule a second interview because I didn't think I performed well on the first one. However, the recruiter told me I passed the Technical Round; hence, the second interview was canceled.
Round 3 - Final Round:
The Final Round consisted of 2 sessions, each lasting about 30-45 minutes: System Design and Behavioral. The recruiter scheduled a prep call to discuss how to prepare for this round. The System Design interview was like a conversation with the Principle Engineer when he mainly asked technical questions about the projects I have done in the past. In the Behavioral Interview, the interviewer asked some typical behavioral questions related to the company principles, so definitely prepare to answer in the STAR format with detailed data and numbers.
Round 4 - Additional Round:
The recruiter reached out to me in less than a week and notified me that I passed the Final Round. Moreover, the HM was considering me for a higher role, so they scheduled an Additional Interview with the Director who was interested in my results. The interviewer introduced the team and the project that they have been working on. This interview was like a casual conversation when we discussed the technology the team has been using and the technology I have experienced.
The Offer:
The recruiter contacted me via phone to notify the overview of the offer. The numbers were very overwhelming, and I would have never thought they would ever go that far for my application. Although the offer was very attractive (it was the highest offer I have received so far, in terms of numbers), I still have to decline them because I accepted another role with more career development potential.
In conclusion, the interview experience was very positive. The recruiter tried their best to support my application. The interviews were also stress-free when the interviewers were very friendly and they won't drill you with difficult questions. And most importantly, the offer was way beyond what I expected, and I think they got the best offer in the market, even when compared to the FAANG (MAANG) companies.
I would highly recommend applying to Walmart and trying your best, and you will be nicely rewarded. And never lose hope even if you failed the interview, they will definitely reach out again when there is a fit.
