      Overnight Receiving Interview

      28 Jun 2011
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Brunswick, ME
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Walmart (Brunswick, ME) in Jun 2011

      Interview

The interview took place at night as the position applied for as an overnight position. I was first interviewed in a 1:1 setting with a hiring manager. This consisted of first filling out paperwork and various forms, reviewing the application I submitted online, etc. After which, the actually question portion took place. This consisted of between 3-5, multi-part questions on various topics from customer service, work-ethic, and dealing with difficult situations. Each question had an overarching topic or theme, and a set of adjectives to describe the kind of individual Wal-Mart is looking for. Then the actual question consisted of a main question with usual 2-5 additional question parts to it. For example, a question might be: "Describe a time where you had to work in a team to accomplish a task. What was the task? What role did you take in the team? How did you identify and overcome problems? What was the outcome?" After the first interview I was provided a short tour of the stock rooms and loading docks of the store. In addition I was provided more information about the position, the typical work day, the kind of work, and various other information. Lastly there was a second interview with a salary manager, while the hiring manager was present (i.e. a group interview setting). This interview consisted of a set of questions very similar to the ones from the first interview. You are allowed to use the same responses as the salary manger has not heard them. Once again the questions are multi-facted. Usually a couple options for each question topic are provided and the interviewee is allowed to decide which to answer. Following the second interview I was asked to leave the room for a short time while they talked and made a decision. I was called back in and offered a job right there. It seems as if they tell you right then whether you get the job or not, so they don't mess around with phone calls or emails. I was then told they would go ahead with the background check, then a drug test would be administered, after which I could begin work.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

"Describe a time when you worked on a team project. What were your job duties? What kind of planning was involved? Were there any challenges encountered? How did you handle them? What was the result?"
