Event Buyer and Merchandising Operations Analyst Interview

      14 Aug 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Wayfair (Boston, MA) in May 2013

      Interview

I was referred to Wayfair by a family friend who's also an employee. I was called a few days later by a recruiter and we spoke for a while about how I was graduating within the month, my hometown and general questions about me. We set up an in person interview during the conversation. I traveled to Boston about 3 weeks later and had an interview with two women who were pretty easy to talk to. They asked how I worked in groups, more general questions and why I wanted to move to Boston. I thought I did pretty well at this point. I was called two days later and told that the interviewers saw me fitting better with a Merchandising Operations Analyst position. Instead of asking me to come to Boston again, this interview was set up over Skype. I had this interview within the week and met two new female recruiters over a Skype interview. They asked me the same questions, some general ones, and said they'd be in touch soon. I received a call about a week later from the original recruiter who told me "We see you working with people, as opposed to sitting behind a computer so we've chosen to continue the process with another candidate." This statement really made no sense to me because I applied to the most ground-level position available knowing that moving up is very frequent at Wayfair. Why didn't they just let me work behind a computer for a while (totally fine with me) then move me up so I can "work with people"? I was confused and felt I put in a lot of time and effort for nothing.
