I applied through university. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Yelp in Oct 2014
Interview
Talked to recruiter at a career fair. Received a phone call from the same recruiter about 2 weeks later. Recruiter described the process but (surprisingly) did not ask any technical questions, only some behavioral questions (e.g. "What is your ideal work environment?" and "Why Yelp?"). After the phone conversation ended, she sent me a coding assessment, which was timed at 28 minutes and consisted of 15 short answer trivia questions (most of them can be found on-line here) and one coding question, which you could complete at your convenience. The expectation seems to be that you are expected to get most of these questions correct. A few hours later, the recruiter sent me an invitation for a phone screen. At the phone screen, the engineer asked about a previous project and gave a design question (e.g. figuring out why the response for an HTTP request is slow) and a coding question, each timed at 20 minutes. I was unable to complete the coding question in time. I probably put myself at a disadvantage in implementing it in Java, when Python would have been easier to do.
Yelp's employees seem very efficient, perhaps a bit on the aloof side. Make sure you are efficient and fast as well! Like really fast...
The recruiter sent me a canned rejection e-mail a week after my phone screen. Oh well. I already had another job offer that would have been more competitive than Yelp's offer anyways.

Question 1
The questions can be found here on Glassdoor. The coding question was the standard grouping of anagrams.
Leetcode style interview online via link, then a 1 on 1 technical interview with a lead developer also online where you can ask questions about the role and working at yelp, later more in depth technical tests and finally references and psicological tests.

Question 1
Talk about the project you are the most proud of, why do you want to work at yelp
Very intense. 4 back to back 45 minute interviews. One behaviour and four technical interviews.
Nice people but got the vibe everyone was happy with the work as it wasn’t too challenging.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Yelp (Toronto, ON) in May 2025
Interview
Around 3 different rounds with a mix of behavioural and technical. Last round features on-site which lasts the whole day, where there are 2 dsa rounds, 1 system design round and 1 recruiter round to end the day.
