Pros

- Unlimited PTO - Some people are nice - Dumped in the deep end immediately so you learn really fast.

Cons

- Work/life balance is nonexistent (especially if you are a support engineer -- I have never met more unhappy people than the support team and for good reason.) - Leadership has never worked in SaaS before (and it shows) - Take whatever workload you thought was your maximum and triple it. That's your workload at Ascend. Then try to get a manager to help you and they will do nothing but criticize you. - The product looks like it's from 1995 and doesn't work like it's supposed to. You will be putting out fires constantly because releases are disastrous. - Customers feel lied to and cheated out of what they thought they were purchasing so it's really hard to make relationships that mean something. Whatever goodwill you are able to scrape together is squandered by poor releases and broken functionality. - Leadership is paranoid and makes wild accusations. Micromanagement and grilling you until you want to cry about things that are not your fault are their two favorite things. - Leadership is nearly entirely white men. - Change is constant but never told to client-facing teams. There is no single source of truth. No one really knows what's going on. It is a constant state of maddening chaos.

Outdated software with out of touch leadership

Pros

* Fully remote * Somehow still has some of the nicest people I had a chance to work with outside of leadership. If only they were listened to, paid what they deserve, and had leadership that cared about their work-life balance. * Interim CTO Kevin was incredible to work with

Cons

* Employees are frustrated, fed up, tired, and overwhelmed, and it's felt through the whole organization. * Most of the code is over 20 years old and the UI looks like it was made in the 1990s. Enterprise companies are relying on this tool that constantly breaks, and their frustrations are taken out on the employees. * Goals are consistently set and missed. Deadlines are promised to customers and not fulfilled. * Team members are overworked and underpaid. People are given 3 - 4 job responsibilities at once, presenting more and more work as "opportunities for growth" without promoting or providing more compensation. * Leadership does not demonstrate trust or show appreciation for their employees * Do not promote, hire/fire, or manage the company by their values. Those in middle management are either "yes" people or they're demoted or removed * The CEO can be openly demeaning to employees, either when they are present or when they are not present. * There is a strong bias towards young white male leadership. There was more than one occasion where someone on the leadership staff made a derogatory comment or inappropriate comments to the women at the organization, who were severely outnumbered.

It's not getting better

Pros

Some of the best people I have ever worked with down in the trenches. Upper Management is completely different

Cons

Wow. There are SO many cons. First off: management is bribing current employees to post glowing Glassdoor reviews, and attempting to track down anyone who posts negative reviews. So take anything you read on here with a grain of salt. Ascend recently PAID customers to post good reviews for "G2", and is not gloating all over LinkedIn about how they got great G2 ratings. There is so many people quitting and leaving that it is just stunning. Not long ago, the whole sales team quit. Recently, the whole marketing team left. The CEO is basically in hiding now, and has a 'chief of staff' (a 100 person company needs a chief of staff? really?) handle all his duties so he does not have to be bothered with the problems of the little people. The product is going downhill and customers are leaving in droves. As far as anyone knows, there has not been any new sales in months. It won't be long until there are layoffs. There is no new revenue coming in.
