Upper management of the National team often treats case managers as if their contributions are less valuable, which can feel demoralizing. Criticism is oftentimes delivered publicly in front of other staff, creating a culture where voices don’t feel genuinely heard despite the “bottom-up” leadership style that is promoted. The disconnect between the mission-driven front-line work and the way the national office manages staff makes it difficult to envision long-term sustainability. There is also limited opportunity for true career development, which contributes to high turnover.
