Pros

There are some good people left in the company that are really keeping it afloat. If you find the right people, the opportunities to learn are there.

Cons

Oh, where to even begin. Like most people I was swayed by the illustrious image BBD created externally. Their social media and community involvement portrays them as a culturally-focused company that truly cares about their employees. Let me tell you, after a gruesome couple of years, that it's all an illusion - which is clear when you take a look at their high staff turnover. At first you think it's just a certain few in management that are problematic (if you're reading this and you're working at BBD or have worked there before, you know exactly who I'm talking about), but as the months go by, you start to realise how toxic the entire management structure has become in order to fit in. Like I've mentioned, there are still some good people left. These people are either only sticking around because they feel guilty and feel the need to protect others, or they are desperately looking to jump ship. After leaving and working for a company who actually values me and doesn't make me feel like I always have to watch my back, I have only now realised how damaging my time at BBD has been to myself and others. I'm still in touch with a lot of ex-colleagues - some who have also left and some who are still there - and it appears that the toxic environment won't change any time soon. My advice would be: if you're looking for a company that has two great parties a year and bribes employees with free Simba chips, then cool - this is the company for you. But if you actually value your mental health, morals and growing as a developer (or any other position for that matter), do your research.

BBD Response

BBD leaders have been, and continue to be, an integral part of our business’ ability to deliver great software solutions to a range of clients year after year. BBD cares for its people and works hard to ensure there is a level of communication and support between everyone, while advancing each person’s career in the process. This includes access to any career-relevant training, whether it be online or classroom-based; an open door policy to discuss changes to projects which we then try and work with within normal business constraints; and access to the BBD community, which has loads of awesome people who are either starting out in their careers or have been at it for decades, all with great tech skills and a wealth of knowledge to share. And yes, we do have snacks and celebrate various milestones with parties, like most companies do. It’s not great to see a review like this, of course, so we clearly missed something here, but wish you the very best in future.

Pros

Great working environment. lot of exposure. bonus twice a year.

Cons

Skin color matters when it comes to salary. Salary difference between black and white people is astonishing. Salary difference between a black person and a white person, with the same experience, can be as high as 5K. For a black person to earn the same, they need to work TWICE as hard as a white person, for the SAME salary. So if you are white, great company for you.

Pros

Good Culture Free Food and Snacks Entertainment Training( If they allow you to go )

Cons

Long hours (60 hour weeks) Open Door policy is a lie (Your request gets heard, then nothing gets done about it) Work on weekends Bad Projects Old technology Low pay No overtime No bonus for overtime - They pay a bonus if it suits them, they will tell one guy that he has to be at the company for 12 months when he was there for 11 months, and for another employee they will tell him that he needs to be at the company for 6 months when he was there for 5.
