Pros

Great software and smart people? That is the only "Pro" I can think of and I've been thinking about writing this review for 6+ months.

Cons

At one point in time, this was a place where you were told you could be a part of something special: Building the next enterprise software giant. Every day that goes by that dream slips further and further away for most. It is only a reality for the founding team and senior leadership while the rest of the 500+ employees are treated as expendable resources regardless of tenure. - An incredibly toxic work environment in NYC office - For a company that is pioneering process transparency, there is NO transparency internally - C-level management taking deals from AE's and not giving any type of comp or quota attainment - Sexual/workplace harassment resulting in a couple of firings. I wish I could say that the firings happened immediately but that was not the case. - No equity of any kind but you're expected to give your blood, sweat, and tears for the company to be successful - Significantly below market pay, benefits, insurance etc. - No culture - Nickel and dime employees on work travel expenses - No one knows (including sales leadership) how to sell the product effectively - Quotas are about 3-4x too high and therefore crushing your number is out of the question - Next to no training or enablement I could go on but I don't think there is a need.

Pros

The two stars is for the product, which is cool and interesting. I have friends in the management consulting space and they rave about the product - it was a driving force in what ultimately compelled me to accept the offer. Damn them.

Cons

All general messaging from leadership is cliched mass-consumption garbage. The weekly all-hands is jargon wrapped in buzz words. It might as well be a click-bait LinkedIn post. GTM "leadership" (see what I did there) rules by fear and bullying. If I wanted to work for chino wearing golfers from Oracle, I'd go try to work there. Sales cycles can be incredibly long. In '22 they closed a large retail coffee company...yes, nice win. I asked the team involved about the win to get some insight and buried in the lede was that it took THREE+ years from initial call to close....oh, yeah, a non refundable draw is not part of the package FWIW, I did like my direct manager and would work for them at a functional company in a second. You could always tell when they got off a forecast/leadership call - they were stressed, slightly rattled, pushing and digging into all opps hoping for new info. Not a healthy environment. Lastly - and I could go in - the DEI conversation is all window dressing. Nobody in leadership cares.

Pros

Sadly there are no pros...

Cons

Where do I even begin with the disastrous nightmare that is Celonis? I had the grave misfortune of working at this company, and it was the worst professional experience of my life. If you value your sanity, career, and general well-being, I implore you to stay away from Celonis at all costs! First and foremost, the management at Celonis is utterly incompetent. They lack the basic skills required to lead and inspire a team. It's abundantly clear that they have no clue what they're doing and are simply playing a never-ending game of "fake it till you make it." Decisions are made on a whim without any consideration for the consequences or impact on employees. They are more interested in maintaining their own egos and power than supporting and empowering their teams. For example, they decided to let go the full Customer Value team (several moved over to the new Value Engineer role). But probably about 60 were let go. Now we are looking to hire 60-70 new additions in our Value Engineer role. It just shows the terrible planning of this company. The toxic work environment at Celonis is suffocating. It's a breeding ground for negativity, favoritism, and backstabbing. Colleagues are pitted against each other, creating a hostile and cutthroat atmosphere. The constant fear of being thrown under the bus by a conniving coworker or a vindictive manager is enough to give anyone anxiety. Trust and camaraderie are non-existent, replaced by an environment of paranoia and constant stress. First line managers are extreme micro-managers because they have no idea what they’re doing. Pretty much explains the engagement score of 25 (out of 100…) Oh, and let's not forget about the abysmal communication at Celonis. Important information is withheld or communicated poorly, leaving employees in a perpetual state of confusion. There is a complete lack of transparency, as if the management enjoys keeping their employees in the dark. Collaborating with other teams becomes an exercise in frustration, as communication breakdowns and misaligned goals are the norm. You'll find yourself wasting hours in pointless meetings and endless email chains that lead nowhere. Some leaders even had to sign an NDA when they found out about the firing of the whole Customer Value organization in advance of the announcement. Career growth? Ha! Don't expect any meaningful opportunities for advancement at Celonis (unless you are part of the inner circle). The company's promises of growth and development are nothing but empty words. They dangle the carrot of progress in front of you, only to snatch it away when it's within your reach. There are no clear paths for career advancement, and promotions are given based on favoritism and politics rather than merit or hard work. The company routinely passes up more experienced and accomplished professionals for those younger 20-year olds that have been at Celonis their whole career but have zero management experience and honestly do not make great managers. To make matters worse, the compensation and benefits at Celonis are a disgrace. The salaries are shockingly low, especially considering the amount of work and stress that comes with the job. Negotiating for fair compensation is met with resistance and dismissal. As for benefits, they are laughably inadequate. The bare minimum is offered, and there are no perks or incentives to make up for the terrible work environment. The company promises how valuable the RSUs will be, but this likely is false given how the founders are destroying the company. In conclusion, working at Celonis is a living nightmare. The inept management, toxic work environment, poor communication, lack of career growth, and insulting compensation and benefits make this company a black hole for your career aspirations and personal well-being. Do not trust any of the positive reviews... fake users are likely writing them. Save yourself the anguish and heartache by avoiding Celonis at all costs. You deserve better.

Celonis Response

Hi - thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience with Celonis isn’t what you or we had hoped it would be. We would like to comment on your message and share our point of view as well. To unite our leaders and support them better, we recently rolled out our Leadership Principles. These principles outline how we lead our teams, how we work together and how we make decisions to ensure we’re inspiring and caring for our people and creating an environment where everyone can thrive. Experienced and first-time leaders, as well as those new to Celonis, are all invited to take part in our leadership development offerings, which build self-awareness and opportunities to develop leadership skills aligned to our Leadership Principles. Our Executive and People and Culture Teams take feedback from engagement surveys very seriously. Results are shared live via company all hands meetings each quarter and action plans are built based on feedback. What we have noticed is that we still have work to do in communicating what actions have been taken. We’re working to ensure employees are more aware of progress and initiatives that are available to them based on their direct feedback. We recently launched a weekly all-company newsletter as one way to communicate such updates. Ambition and high performance is part of our culture and who we are. However, we encourage Celonauts to take time to rest and recharge, and give back to their communities through our Impact Days. To that extent, Celonis recently kicked off our first Wellbeing Month. Key initiatives included Zoom Free Fridays, an optional Step Challenge, workshops on a variety of wellbeing topics, and more. We aim to compensate our employees competitively, following our pay for performance philosophy. By no means an exhaustive list, our compensation portfolio has the following highlights. We conduct annual merit cycles funded with a meaningful budget for salary increases and industry-level equity refreshes. Additionally, employees have an opportunity to be promoted twice a year. Celonis reviews its compensation ranges on a regular basis using market research against peer companies, in order to determine the appropriate compensation at all job levels and in all functions. We are consistently looking for new ways to optimize our overall total rewards offering and in the last 12 months, we have made huge strides. This includes expanding our family leave globally, adding an Education Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) award for newborns and adopted children to support with the cost of education in the future, investing in an Employee Assistance Program, and more. At Celonis, we trust our employees to share their authentic experience, both internally and externally. We encourage Celonauts to leave Glassdoor reviews at various points in their tenure, however, we don’t incentivize this nor do we advise them on what to say. We take feedback seriously and are continuing to put time and resources toward addressing concerns around culture and wellbeing. We would be very interested to discuss your feedback with you personally; if you'd be willing to chat with us, please feel free to reach out to Talent@celonis.com. Team Celonis
