Technical Consultant = Sales Person minus commission
Pros
Good team ethic across offices Your skill set will become vast given the range of technology you are required to support
Cons
Staff are not promoted for the right reasons, if you click with middle and upper management you may stand a chance. Be prepared to be heavily overworked and highly underpaid and if you like stress then this is the place for you. The support desk are driven by numbers and closure rates are made into a competition so quality of work goes out the window. As a technical consultant you can look forward to fixing end user issues and building PC's, there's nothing technical or consultative about it. Occasionally you may get to deliver a project for minimal cost in the fastest time possible. All about money and the bottom line. You will be forced to push an (awful) selection of products down clients throats to make sure you meet targets and this, believe it or not is actually part of what they call a Personal Development Review!
