Pros

Fat bonus at the cost of self respect

Cons

I am part of the back office team. Very sadistic treatment. The bosses are not worth talking to. No respect for asians. HR are a bunch of goons who do nothing.

Pros

Some roles will give you the Global portfolio lacking in other MNCs, particularly in Singapore. Generally talented and friendly co-workers with competitive remunerations in general. I still believe DFS will come out strong in the future!

Cons

There were far too much legacy in DFS, as it was a great and "human/relationship" based company in the past. Change was supposed to be good but the major restructure in 2019 was not handled well and it has dented the confidence and created unhappiness in majority of the employees. Further impact from Covid-19 in 2020 as DFS operates as a Travel Retailer. Forced to take tough and negative actions to contain financials, creating further lack in employee confidence although Management is trying very hard to contain the situation. The change of leadership has brought direct impact to some departments, some positive while some negative. However, humans usually forget good things while bad things are remembered. Back to my first Con, the company went through a badly managed restructuring to remove legacy yet some poor leadership amidst chaos is promoting legacy.

Pros

Employee discounts extended to a wide range of luxury goods sold in the stores. Adequate welfare and benefits.

Cons

Slow career growth and progression. Fast track reserved for those with local degrees and accounting majors. I have a degree but am grossly underpaid in spite of my years of experience and qualifications, at least in comparison to my peers. Seemingly open culture but only semi-transparent and subject to the dynamics of interpersonal relationships. Work performance is moderated by the bell curve, which means ratings typically hover in the ''meet expectations" range, and that is difficult to make the leap to the next one.
