Pros

Good products and scale. Great pay and benefits.

Cons

Has lost its way. No longer a chemical company. Now acts like a social enterprise focused on everything other than chemistry and strong manufacturing excellence. CEO and management focused on social engineering - LGBT, diversity....all very nice but at the expense of being a great Chemical company. Doubt the Dow family would recognize what has become of their beloved company. Now its about flying rainbow flags or solving third world problems or funding Olympics or marching for some cause.

Pros

1. You will be working for and with capable people. 2. No one joins Dow without knowing their stuff. NO ONE. 3. Bosses are generally good to fantastic. My boss continuously stresses that we must make Dow a great place to work and we feel it here. 4. Team members are encouraged to help one another, that's the company culture. We help our colleagues get sales from our customers, and they do the same. 5. Level of support and collaboration within the company is impressive. I am very inspired by the cooperation of my colleagues here. 6. There's never nothing to do here. Workload is high but manageable. You will be paid well and given good benefits but be prepared to have to work hard for it.

Cons

1. Company has been on many rounds of layoffs, not because it is losing money but because of the increasing profit targets set by management. Easiest way is to layoff staff and we lose good people in the process. 2. Too much focus on shareholder remuneration that it keeps getting repeated over and over again. Yes, it is good to reward shareholders for their investment and confidence in the company but don't forget your staff. 3. Been selling off business units even though they make money - just for short term capital gains to give out as dividends. How about investments for the future?

Pros

I started working for Dow as a trainee after university. It's a great company to grow up in. I learned a lot and had the pleasure of working in 5 different countries. Good job opportunities with increasing responsibility. Great company to learn, best practice and diverse culture.

Cons

Every 3-5 years people are laid off. This happens in an unstructured, random way. At Dow not always the best man or woman is at the right job, it's more who you know. The performance reviews are not taken into consideration and mainly to determine salary levels. If you plan to work for Dow, do not stay longer than 10-12 years. Your CV will be much more worth outside Dow. Use it for learning and then move on. Hardly anyone makes it to normal retirement. The HQ is located in Midland MI, a small white collar town where everyone is linked to Dow Chemical.
