Good people - leadership fails

Pros

The majority of people that work at this company are great. Very friendly and easy to work with. Their mgt team is not as fun.

Cons

- intense micro managers. - leadership does not inspire or instill confidence - nobody takes responsibility for their actions. Overall, the lack of experienced leadership at this company frequently leads employees to become frustrated with unnecessary roadblocks and challenges. In the last few years it has deteriorated from being a positive workplace to something more negative. Important decisions are not made quickly and perhaps worse, employee input is ignored by mgt.

Positives and Negative of Working at a Startup

Pros

The biggest pro of working at DrivingSales was, for me, my team members and colleagues. I loved the folks I worked with on a daily basis, and especially my manager. It can also be a very fun, casual environment, and there are things like potlucks and lots of fun holiday stuff. The people working at this company make it a really amazing and fun place to work for the most part. As far as my work, I had the opportunity to work on a lot of different kinds of projects and with different kinds of people. I learned a lot working there, and I never felt wiped out or overworked. Sometimes we dealt with tight deadlines, but we managed. I felt highly valued by my manager, and by my team members.

Cons

This company is going through a lot of growing pains, some of which end up affecting the employees negatively. As of the time I left, there was no process for raises or bonuses, even though some of my coworkers had bonuses written in to their contracts. And because of the way that senior management operates, I know people waited months, up to a year, after asking for a raise, had to threaten to quit, or even get job offers and be walking out the door before they would get raises that they deserved. There also tends to be a lot of workplace gossip, again, because management is not transparent with people, and so things trickle down and make their way through the company through gossip.

The Honest Truth

Pros

There are break room snacks

Cons

Working for DrivingSales is an emotional roller coaster; you rarely feel happy and most of the time you're scared and stressed out about what comes next. I can't say the experience was worthless to me, as it did help establish good footing and networking, but the overall experience left a VERY bitter taste in my mouth. Over the course of recent years, I witnessed over 15 employees leave the company (both by their own will and by being forced out). The sad part is that management never ever addresses the fact that the turnover is SO BAD. It's always swept under the rug to quickly hide the fact that there's a serious problem. Ironically, DrivingSales sells a product to combat all the issues that it has itself as a company; high turnover, no career path, employee incentivization plans, etc. Why not become advocates of the product you sell before trying to shove it down other people's throats? Just a thought. If you're thinking about working here as your first out-of-college job or to just get some experience, be prepared to have your eyes opened. You likely won't have a future career here for more than a couple years and you will likely NEVER get a raise. Management tries to hire talent for cheap, use them up, and throw them out. Rinse and repeat. You've been warned.
