Pros

Free snacks. Met some cool people!

Cons

I have never felt more under utilized in my 10+ years of professional experience . Going to work everyday made me feel like I was taking crazy pills. It was very clear they no one knew what they were doing (besides interns) and when concerns were brought up they were brushed under the rug. Very concerning for the industries they are attempting to integrate with. When I interviewed and accepted the job, the position was framed as something completely different.

Unfocused, Inexperienced and Unwilling to Trust

Pros

The compensation is good and mostly inline with industry norms.

Cons

The company has gone through layoffs/firings almost yearly and no real effort is made to retain top talent. Stock options are offered but the company will not provide any information necessary to evaluate their value. I estimate that the average employee's option grant, which vests over 4 years (assuming they are not laid off), is likely worth less than 1/4 of their yearly salary. Management is mostly comprised of people with no business or engineering experience, important technical and product decisions are made without seeking input from engineering.

Two Feet in the Grave

Pros

Compensation is good, hours are regular.

Cons

DUST has been in a downward spiral during my time with the company. The CEO's personal failings have driven every experienced executive away from the company, leaving only cowardly, impotent yes-men that tiptoe around him and add to the dysfunction flowing past them downstream. When new leadership or talent comes in, they've always said "this isn't the company I thought I was joining". The CEO thinks he's a master salesman, when really all he's realized is "lying is easy and you don't often get caught". The board (apparently) still thinks things are going great. He seems to lie to them as much as to new hires about the company's history and trajectory. Once they're in the door, new hires (especially at the director / executive level), have a few short months where he feigns interest in their advice and feedback, and think "he does care, he's just got a lot on his plate". That's what I thought, too. Then months go by, you're late on a project that he's sabotaged, and you see the mask slip. He doesn't care to change, he just acted like he understood your advice so that you'd think he was an effective CEO. To his credit, he's the only person at DUST that thinks the company has a future. Most who've been here longer than 3 months knows he's doomed the company, and either are actively trying to leave, or paralyzed with anxiety. I hope we all get out, and find some peace.
