Pros
Amazon is a vast and dynamic organization, offering incredible exposure across multiple business verticals like Retail, AWS, Prime Video, and Ads. The cross-team collaboration to improve customer experience is inspiring, and internal mobility allows employees to explore different domains — you might start in one team and move to another entirely. If you’re part of a global team, travel opportunities also come your way. The “Day 1” culture truly reflects Amazon’s ever-evolving nature — while change can be challenging, it also drives constant innovation, both for customers and within the company.
Cons
In my experience, Amazon struggles with leadership transitions. Every time a senior leader leaves, entire teams get reshuffled mid-year, disrupting priorities and derailing ongoing projects. This not only affects morale but also impacts the hard work put in during the first half of the year. Promotions can get delayed or reset as new leaders bring their own direction, making it hard to maintain continuity. Over time, the focus has shifted from innovation and experience to pure cost-cutting. While customer and employee experience are still talked about, they often take a backseat to meeting short-term goals. Layoffs have become more common, and in some cases, even basic performance reviews are skipped. The culture has changed, and not necessarily for the better under current leadership.
