Pros

Discovered excellent information sources. Built up close relationships with a few good editors and reporters (although nearly all of them worked outside Argus). Discovered cool stuff like Bloomberg and The Economist. A few decent writers worked there briefly before moving on and simply throwing in the towel.

Cons

The CEO is an obsessive micromanager who encourages (and seems to relish) vicious infighting among staff. Some managers freely breached the wall that is suppossed to seperate editorial judgement and commerce, writing content and marketing to customers. It often seemed like a PR firm masquerading as a news organization ( and enjoying the protection of editorial privilege). The Company is determined to become a leading price reporting agency and cultivating its business, often at the expense of responsible independent journalism and ethical standards.

Pros

Great teammates with high standards and low egos. Compensation isn’t competitive, so top performers often move on. The medical insurance, though, is excellent.

Cons

Management: Severely disconnected. A strict “3 days in office” rule is tracked via weekly attendance reports, yet the Head of North America works fully remote after moving away from Houston. Compensation: Senior-level pay is well below the Houston market. Repeated promises to make salaries competitive have been half-measures (think bottom 10% range). Hours: Expect meetings to be scheduled irrespective of your actual working hours.
