Pros

Interesting to get to see the inner workings of a newer hospitality company. Some genuinely smart and friendly colleagues.

Cons

I was very excited to join the company after admiring it from afar for a few years. Unfortunately the inside workings and people that make it up are disappointing and at times, toxic. Employees, including much of the leadership team, are blindly loyal to the company and prioritize the “success” of the company ahead of their own happiness - and expect everyone else to do the same. One other review here called it "kool-aid drinking" and I 100% agree - they act like they’re curing cancer, but in reality the company is just an overpriced hotel chain. The CEO is disingenuous and uncomfortable to be around. He expects everyone to put their lives into the company, offering mediocre pay and fake praise. It’s sad to watch his most loyal employees waste their time and energy into a CEO and company that doesn’t actually care about them. Both the CEO and company are preachy about making the outdoors accessible and a place to make memories, while also protecting the environment. This is 1000% performative. Marketing campaigns claim the company cares about the environment, its employees, acceptance, LGBT community... but it’s all extremely empty. All they care about is optics and profit. There are so many better adventure hotels opening up, you’re sure to find a better company to work for.

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback. We value all reviews, both positive and critical, as they help us grow and improve. We're pleased to hear that you found some of your colleagues smart and friendly and appreciated the opportunity to observe the inner workings of a growing hospitality company. However, we're genuinely sorry to learn about your negative experiences during your time with us. Your concerns regarding company culture, leadership, and our environmental and social initiatives are taken very seriously. We want to address some of the specific points you raised: 1. Company Culture and Leadership: It's disheartening to hear that you found the environment toxic and that leadership's loyalty to the company's success overshadowed personal well-being. We strive to create a balanced workplace where personal and professional growth go hand in hand. We acknowledge that there's always room for improvement and will reflect on ways to better support and value our employees. 2. Pay and Recognition: We regret that you felt the compensation and recognition you received were inadequate. Competitive pay and genuine appreciation are crucial for a motivated and happy workforce. Since your review, we have been working to build additional, meaningful recognition programs and will continue to evaluate our pay structures and recognition going forward. 3. Environmental and Social Initiatives: Our commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility is genuine, and it's concerning that this felt performative to you. We understand that actions speak louder than words and are dedicated to demonstrating our commitment through tangible actions and transparent communication. We will reassess our initiatives to ensure they have a meaningful impact and truly reflect our values. 4. Management Advice: Your advice to management is invaluable. Recognizing the vital role of frontline employees, diversifying our leadership team, and maintaining perspective on our industry's nature are all essential steps we will take seriously. We aim to build a more inclusive and supportive environment where all employees feel valued and heard. Thank you again for your feedback. We're committed to learning from this and improving our company culture and practices. If you're open to it, we would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experiences further. Your insights could be instrumental in helping us create a better workplace for everyone.

Pros

- Pay was decent - My manager was supportive and helpful (they were way overworked, and have since left)

Cons

- Basecamp employees are afforded opportunities/benefits not given to Property employees. E.g., Property employees accrue up to 5 days of PTO their first year (that's inclusive of sick time), while Basecamp employees get Unlimited PTO right out the gate. - They expect loyalty while offering none of their own. They seem to let a few people go every year around December, regardless of job performance. - They advertise all roles with generic phrases like "competitive benefits, generous PTO" that don't reflect reality. (see above: 5 days of PTO your first year if you work on Property) - No 401(k) match - Company values are performative - CEO is coddled and out of touch
