High stress working on projects where the engineering direction is set by non-engineering management. I agree that it is a highly political work environment where the CEO gleefully manages by fear, and middle managers are selected for ruthlessness instead of competence. Engineers are not allowed to use their creativity or intelligence, and can't deviate from the manager's instructions. The stress comes from not being allowed to make decisions to achieve successful products, but knowing that you will likely be scapegoated and blamed for failure.
