Pros

A couple of lifetime friendships made from my time there.

Cons

Join if you love to be bullied, micromanaged, gaslit and put on a PIP by incompetent two faced team leaders and managers who have never been given any staff relationship training and promoted above capability because their ‘face fits’. Team leaders with poor emotional intelligence who have had complaints of bullying made against them previously and completely ignored and brushed under the carpet by the people team (despite staff being interviewed). Join if you want workplace trauma and damaged mental health that crushes your confidence and self esteem whilst you’re going through the menopause and have been diagnosed with ADHD. Join if you want to be given 24 hour SLAs whilst other team members have 48 hours. Join if you want your work scrutinised and your team leader to speak to you like you are a child and pass comments such as ‘your job is in jeopardy’ and ‘you’re weeks away from dismissal’ and ‘even if you manage to get off this PIP you’ll remain under scrutiny”. Join if you want 2.5 years of being gaslit that if you do ‘X, Y and Z’ you’ll be fine and come off the PIP. Join if you want to jump through impossible hoops to get nowhere. Join if you want to have to explain at the end of every shift what you have done, not managed to do and how you intend on rectifying it. Join if some other team members are lazy and incompetent and you rectify their mistakes but they are never reprimanded because their faces fit. Join if you want to end up so unwell you have severe panic attacks, agoraphobia and on all kinds of medication with the crisis team involved and can no longer work as every bit of your sense of self has been stamped on and now you have ended up a nervous wreck and on a waiting list for trauma therapy (despite telling the people team by email that you were suicidal directly as a result of the mistreatment). 18 years of service. I should have left years ago. Thanks Barnardo’s!

Pros

An organization focused on the future. In a corporate transition and hoping to add value to the families, young people and children they support.

Cons

Emotional, tiring work for those who are passionate about serving a social cause.

Pros

Barnardo's really helps people across the UK and I was lucky enough to see this first-hand. My immediate managers were supportive, loyal, and responsive to their team's feelings. I admired my colleagues a great deal: they were all dedicated and hardworking. Flexible and responsive to work-life balance requests.

Cons

There was a great deal of disillusionment about the new employee contract and the consultation process surrounding it. The consultation seemed forced and many employees - including managers - felt pressured to agree to the conditions despite misgivings.
