Pros

Other people in your department can be friendly. Break room used to have a Wii.

Cons

Favoritism. Pushed to sell (As a cashier). No movement in position or pay what so ever. Managers expect you to know all your products without training you or your co-workers. (Training consists of shadowing another employee for a day). At my store the policy was: "Train your own replacement" as every time you are in there now, staff has flipped. No pre-ordering games / product. Discounts on new, non open box / used / clearance items was deplorable (sometimes none). Not rewarded with anything more than a high 5 from your manager for blowing away all other employees. (Though the high 5 was genuine). No breaks some days (this is illegal by the way) because there was no other cashiers scheduled on the same day until 5 pm (I started at 9 am). When asked why I did not take a break apparently the front end manager was supposed to take my position for break and I was the one who needed to make it happen. Break room used to have a Wii, big screen TV, a couch and a table and enough chairs. They changed this later on for (wouldn't call them TVs) Monitors which displayed best buy stock and info. No place to sit and employees, male and female had no where to change. Specific situations: Was once scolded for not knowing the price of Rambo 2 on sale by a customer. When manager was told why a customer was scolding me, he said he knew the prices of all items in store. When further questioned he said he did not know the price either and that it was Quote: "I don't know, that's your job". The worst of all? I was asked to come in 2 weeks after my final day to be accused of and interrogated for theft / embezzlement of 6000$ CAD worth of Video games. This was a military style interrogation where I was nearly threatened with 'prospects of my immediate future'. I went in on good faith and they just stuck a shank in me and reamed that SOB.

Pros

-It's a job that is available in most locations.

Cons

-The company, on a corporate level, doesn't seem to grasp the value of the talent they have. - Close ties with Citibank subvert the importance of product knowledge, customer service, and revenue for credit card sales. - Daily Performance check-ins are overbearing and myopic. - Tends to burnout motivated employees with false carrots and hollow promises. - Pay's terrible, and rides the line of predatory at times.
