Pros

Most people on the team are a lot of fun.

Cons

No leadership, no clear business plan, no stability. Company goals and departments are constantly changed and extremely unorganized. Business practices are questionable and, at times, unethical. Many in leadership are unprofessional and inexperienced. Clear favoritism and you don't want to get on the founder's bad side. Both founders constantly at odds made for an uncomfortable environment. Everyone answers to one person who is extremely entitled, scatterbrained and unpredictable. Some people in leadership who have the ability to change the company culture won't because they are scared to answer to the founder. They draw business from the same companies but pitch themselves as a growing business. They have a lot of trouble raising capital and are not sustainable with the current business model. Promise clients more than they can deliver. Customers were paying lots for services they weren't satisfied with or never received. No room for growth. Pitch themselves as a startup but do not resemble a successful business or startup culture at all. Very stressful environment.

Thank you for your review. We appreciate the feedback. And, yes, we wholeheartedly agree that the people on the BuiltWorlds team are fun to work with! We did go through a period when we decided to exit numerous sponsored media activities, which we did find challenging, in favor of focusing on our members network and conferences. We realize the transition was difficult for many of our former colleagues and we regret that we weren’t able to integrate them successfully into the more focused network organization. We also regret that some people may have found the reorganization stressful, but we were also doing the best we could to provide people with new opportunities in the refocused business and to minimize layoffs. We are also sorry you found the experience stressful. At BuiltWorlds, we have indeed prided ourselves on allowing people early in their careers the opportunity to take on significant responsibility, if they show interest, and to be responsive when they tell us they are at their limits. Some important lessons for us are that we need to be transparent with people joining BuiltWorlds that we are not a great place to work for people who need more structure, support, and consistency in the work routines. We are a better place to work for people who appreciate a fast paced environment where people value the growth opportunity that comes with the ability to take on significant new responsibilities and also people who embrace the associated challenges. It is a demanding environment, but it can be rewarding for those whose notch wins. As for the assertions that BuiltWorlds has no clear business plan, draws business from the same companies, has a lot of trouble raising capital, and is not sustainable with the current business model, BuiltWorlds does have a business plan, and metrics around that plan were laid out for the team. BuiltWorlds has never failed to close a funding round or get funding when needed, missed a pay period, or failed to pay a bill. Having grown to more than 200 member companies in less than two years, we also dispute the notion that our business comes from the same customers. Also, the fact that we achieved profitability in the fourth quarter of 2018 would also seem to contradict the assertion that the business is unsustainable. Again, we’re excited about the team we have and about the business, as it is currently focused. We regret that your experience was so negative. We will learn what we can from your feedback.
