Pros

Overall, CIBC is a rewarding company to start your career at (but not to grow it). Career success here has very little to do with actual performance, driven mostly by networking and relationships built internally. It's important to keep in mind that Retail Banking and HQ are completely different- so you can't clump it into one review. Don't expect to start as a CSR and then move into head office even 4 years later. It's not happening.

Cons

-CIBC spends very little time and money on training and development for their employees. -Unless you have 5 years of experience in your career and are moving laterally into CIBC, the salary is vastly below the market. I've took a lateral move externally and am now making more than my old manager -Very cheap organization for basic things you would expect elsewhere, i.e sponsoring designation renewals, paying for employee recognition, employees have to pay for time out as a group -Too much focus on "thought leadership", but little critical thinking is actually used -Large company focus on diversity, but little to no visible minorities in upper management -High level of micro managing, check ins -Excessive amount of meetings that could have been an email

Pros

-People were friendly and would do coffee chats/one-on-one lunches. -Other interns were great. -Base compensation as an analyst is on the higher end.

Cons

-Feedback from intern manager only given at the end of a rotation differed greatly from what team members would directly tell me which was confusing. Makes me think people are only nice on the surface. -Team members prioritized some interns over others in terms of work given and time spent. -Teams in the same product group had wildly different work life balance with some working 70+ hours a week and others working close to 40. -Has high turnover overall due to lower compensation at the Director+ level.
