Pros

Work from home can be earned, depending on how things go. Taco Tuesday* (I can't eat tacos waa waa)

Cons

I recently got a new job, a pretty big step in my career, and I left Corptax. As my current position stands, it has been arguably more stressful, more demanding, and more high-stakes than anything I had to deal with while working at CSC Corptax. Today, I took 15 minutes for a quick lunch and worked my butt off pretty much the rest of the 9+ hours I spent in the office. I sacrificed two work from home days a week to go into the office by public transit five days a week and gave up a probable bonus scheduled for next month. I would do it all again in a heartbeat, because I am 1000% happier and healthier in the new work environment I am in, despite the currently fast-paced, and sometimes (healthy) stress situation. Why? First, my manager at Corptax did not trust me. Plain and simple. They did not trust my expertise of having knowledge in my field, did not trust me when I said I was overloaded with work, did not trust that there had to be a reason that their completely burned out employee was struggling while we were looking to expand the department and needed more help. Instead, I received a vague Performance Improvement Plan (PIP) for not "being up to my usual X standard" which we never actually met about, lasted for an indeterminate amount of time, and was cited both as a reason not to promote me and was used as an excuse to never recognize a huge professional certification that should have warranted more than one-line reply in an email when I passed. My soul was being crushed as I questioned “What am I doing wrong? I’m totally overwhelmed, and I’m trying my hardest and being told that’s not good. What is wrong with me?” I was told to write a list of processes that ‘took a long time’ in the marketing automation platform that I was customizing, building out, and setting up correctly so they now have analytics and channel performance measurement. I had to respond seriously to “and I care about this again why?” and defend myself on multiple occasions when trying to introduce an advanced report in our platform. We lost over a year of baseline data because I was prevented from setting up the tracking required. Second, I was constantly paranoid and upset at Corptax. The unbalanced amount of workload falls heavily on the lower tiers, while managers and upper management invest time in foosball and workout regimes on the clock, or they go idle for hours on remote days. It seemed as though standards applied to some, but not all, members of the company, and some people were just accepted as moochers. The appearance of busyness and being able to write daily status reports were prioritized over actual work, especially if it wasn't understood. I’m sure this isn’t unique, but I think a few departments have way too many employees for the amount accomplished. If you like mediocrity, appearing to be really busy, wiggling your mouse on work from home days, and being micromanaged and scolded for things that make you question your sanity, Corptax is the place for you! What about marketing strategy? There are no KPIs, nothing is tracked, it’s all spaghetti against the wall and email reports. No content in the content, either, which is also maddening…Am I the only one noticing this?! Many times I would point out errors or improvements when asked to review a mailer, only to be told that it was too late at this point to change things (this was the first point at which I was included) and they'd run with it anyway. Other times, we sent out a mailer leading to a blank page with a video. No form, no text. A video and nothing else. Was this a mistake?! I was alarmed and told my manager. Nope, we ran with it, and it failed miserably. Advanced analytics were not really understood, so they were—not trusted. Now, I guess they’re a priority, which is funny because I was told Tableau or another data visualization tool was not a priority and that I was not to spend ANY time learning them when I suggested it would be more efficient than Excel and PowerPoint, and doing manual reporting took hours to do. I think my manager said it best after they sent an email that I think was intended to show how ridiculous I am when I was not happy at an entry-level title after being the admin of the new marketing platform and literally teaching the new hire how to do things in Marketo (which I didn't mind, but I should not have shared their title, we were not doing the same work.) This is quoted from an email I saved because I couldn't tell if I was losing my mind, I'll let you be the judge: "I reminded you that title changes at Corptax do not come easily (or quickly) in our department, and to think about all the other benefits of working here. While your title may not grow, you are able to grow miles professionally. You mentioned that other departments seem to have more flexibility in terms of promotions and title changes. I agreed but reminded you that we are not in one of those departments. You also stated you feel that you and X are at different levels, yet have the same job title. I said I understand that frustration as well. You then asked if there are tangible things you can do to work towards a promotion and/or new job title (possibly X). I’d like to better understand more about this as I feel Corptax provides the opportunity for growth through work experiences and continuing education opportunities (relevant outside training, tuition reimbursement, etc.)." Note: I was promised, but never given, a list of tangible things that I could do to qualify for a promotion. I was also told that I was not recognized for my achievements because they thought I used work time to study for something relevant to work. I absolutely did not do this, they never asked me if I had, and I also had no idea that they thought this until this was the reason given months later for not celebrating it. I received radio silence and was internally going mad, wondering what I had done wrong. At this point, I had already been selectively job hunting. Somehow, though, I was determined to end on a positive note. I tried to set them up for success by recording dozens of job aides of how to do things no one else knew how to do, and I felt like we would end amicably. However, a few days before I was gone from the company but after I had given notice, they posted a job that *LinkedIn recommended me for* using its default algorithm and my unedited current profile, for more than 2x my current salary after: -being told there was no room for growth in the department multiple times -someone with significantly less experience than when I started 4 years prior joined with the same job title that I held -taking on much more responsibility, including correcting my boss’s work, training my coworker with the same job title, and building out almost every program template in our MarTech automation -being told that "having access to training and the tech I use is its own reward"--I was ironically never given access to the on-demand training I took screenshots of that salary, which was later taken down. A fluke? Seemed unlikely. It literally kept me up that night…I couldn’t sleep. What do I say to a company that stabbed me in the back like that? How do I look at them the same way? You can’t. You move forward, and you don’t look back. Which is what I suggest you do when considering Corptax.

Pros

Great benefits. Hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 at home) is nice for people who want to switch up the days they go into the office / work from home.

Cons

Terrible work-life balance! Overtime is optional, but managers try to guilt-trip you into working OT. The raise they offered was laughable, and I wasn't the only one who was insulted by it. Management is incredibly petty. I also sat through many conversations, started by a leader, surrounding politics and religion. If you're in the annual reports department, it is incredibly difficult to get out. I saw many people try to get into other departments only to be blocked each time. If you're in a satellite office, they will forget about you! They only care about the DE offices.
