Becoming more professional but more boring and dull as a consequence - Delivery Darwin Technologies Employee Review

Pros

Some great client brands to work on Great people in the delivery and support teams - a good social life Some great parties

Cons

New senior leadership team who are competent but dull means the spark that made Thomsons what is was is diminishing as the company becomes arguably more professional but is losing its personality and atmosphere by the day. Severe skills shortage with people badly overworked and a management team who don't seem to really understand the business or the people (or really seem to care) - sending empty emails with lots of pink font is just really annoying rather than motivational - This has created a them and us feeling among many.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review and I am sorry to hear that you’ve felt the spark has been diminishing. We’ve had a really intense and rewarding 2017, which has resonated differently with all of our Thomsons People, whether they’ve been here for a just a few days or 17 years since we were founded. We are incredibly ambitious - continuing our leadership position in global benefits technology – and we experienced the most phenomenal growth in the past year, on-boarded so many new joiners across our teams, delivered Darwin in more than 90 countries to our clients and brought on even more great global brands as clients We rely entirely on our People, who bring their brilliant blend of characteristics to Thomsons each day, to achieve our success. Naturally, a company growing at such a rate offers our People incredible career growth and experience, whether you are already working at Thomsons or considering joining us. And our ‘pink’, is, and always will be, our special essence that we bring to everything we do at Thomsons, now on a larger and larger scale. It is an absolute privilege to work with a leadership team that is so committed to and passionate about our product, our clients and, most importantly our People. Although you’re no longer with us, we’re still very happy to have a chat if you’d like to go into any of the points you’ve highlighted, either with me, our People Team or our Leadership Team. Getting it right for our People is our number 1 priority, please drop us an e-mail at j4tp@thomsons.com and we can take it from there.

Pros

Everyone will tell you what you want to hear and sound like they mean it. Close to CalTrain

Cons

It's in Burlingame, CA. You will be promised things in the interview that will not be true. You will be "oversold" the position (their words - not mine) so if it's too good to be true-- it's probably not true. The break room is pitiful. The on-boarding process was relentless and they made me feel bad about expecting things to be set up before I started. They have a "that's just the way it is" kind of attitude. They are a benefits company that won't even invest in a 401k option for the U.S. team or even other mainstream benefit packages (gym, lunches, etc). The office has barely any sunlight. Getting reimbursed for expenses (flights, phone, phone bill) takes way too long. It took them more than 3 weeks to get my insurance set up. The main office is in London (which you may never even get to see like they promise you) and it is difficult to communicate with anyone there about important matters. It took them more than 3 weeks to get me a proper power cord for my laptop. You HAVE to use a Dell Laptop. They won't invest in you until you fully invest in them. They treat you as though you should be lucky to work for them instead of them being lucky to have you working there.

We are sorry to hear that your brief time with Thomsons didn’t live up to your expectations. Our US office is very much a start-up and the look, feel and environment of the office reflect that. Our recruitment process is very transparent about what it is like to work at Thomsons and what’s on offer, and our culture is very much orientated to a partnership and balance between us and Thomsons People. This does require a get-up-and-go, can do approach, and the ‘you get out what you put in’ which is common is most of our reviews is representative of the company. Sadly, sometimes it comes down to simply not being the right fit. We wish you all the best.
