I love the flexible schedule

Online ESL teaching around the world via innovative technology. Absolutely no micromanagement when I was there. Actually there was no supervision, period, when I was there, which was fine because everything was so smoothly-running in my department that there was no need for supervision. I liked that a lot. No heavy breathing down the back of my neck. Being honest, responsible, educated adults, we did just fine. Computer equipment was top notch. I loved the work. Secure workplace in a quiet, yet beautiful and central location. Great supervisors, when they happened to show up.

Nobody's fault but there was the occasional computer meltdown. Not enough windows in the building made it a tad claustrophobic. When there was an emergency there were no supervisors and we had to scramble to find them (but they always came fairly quickly). The training was inadequate. I felt lost and confused, thrown in the deep end. There was no regular work; it was all piece rate by the quarter hour, and I had to try to acquire my own students. It was really like being an independent contractor working through a middleman-agent. Low pay.
