Pros
After franchising from Accor to Fairview several years ago, some of the benefits remained i.e. free staff meal while on duty, uniform provided and free accommodation within the UK at other Accor hotels.
Cons
Following on from the above
Staff meals became really poor towards the end of my time at the hotel, it was no longer a benefit.
Uniform budget became tight, so instead of the standard uniform supplier, we had to go and get the cheapest trousers, shirt, etc from Matalan.
Cost cutting became the company's main target. Low staffing levels, no/little heating/lighting. Inferior guest products used in both bedrooms and public areas. No branded stationery
Promotions are difficult, and wages remain stagnant even with the cost of living increase year on year.
Fairview head office is based down in Stevenage. They refer to their selves as central support (it really is more like central dictation)
The appointed directors are cliquey. Anything that takes place at one unit and is gossip-worthy and everyone knows.
The directors lack the knowledge and experience to develop this infant company into anything worthy. The owners would do well to insert a more dynamic and experienced team to really drive its potential, but as the directors know where the skeletons are buried, it is extremely unlikely this will happen.
I would not recommend this company to either friends or family, and would fight tooth and nail to prevent someone from taking a position.
