Pros
Family video does offer good benefits to the managers as far as I can tell. Most of the employees are very friendly and are a close knit group with a tight bond. The video store offers good deals to customers and is very lenient with customers as far as late fees. They also have regular customers who are often very friendly to interact with. This is very beneficial considering that as a manager the store will become your home. Some of the employees can be very helpful and all of them take pride in their job.
Cons
The hours are very long, no breaks what so ever. You are expected to be on your feet the entire day, never complain and always be happy. There is no adjustment period for people who are not used to this kind of work environment. You are expected to immediately adapt (within 2 weeks) or you will be let go. Working closely with a manager, I was rarely provided positive feedback, it was often what I was doing wrong. I was also alienated and treated like an outsider. This can be draining but in order to succeed you must look past it. I did not get very far into the program, but I was disappointed that they let me go so suddenly and without any warning. They did not allow me to improve or adjust in the time I needed and the manager seemed to want to avoid any discussion or confrontation regarding my employment status. Even when I took their advice and showed improvement and change they disregarded this and "went with their gut" in letting me go. Through the interview process they will warn you how tiring and time consuming the job is, do not take this in stride. If you do then you will waste about a month in interviews and a few weeks if not more working your butt off for no reason.
