Pros

working with movies is fun, the customers are pleasant, commissions are okay.

Cons

Let's talk about the things you don't get paid for! They expect you to work volunteer hours, for example I worked 2:30-8:30pm at our local fair in out Family Video booth without being paid. When we don't get movies in stock, we are required to volunteer our time in the early morning to go to walmart and buy them with the store card. The on call shifts take the majority of your day, I've had one that lasted 3-10pm before, they give you thirty minutes to get to the store. So the entire time you're waiting around in your work clothes waiting for them to call you. They are super strict on payroll, if you're a midshift forget working more than 3-4 hours a night. They expect you to get to the store 20 minutes before your shift to count your drawer, without being paid. When you travel for the store with other managers you're only paid the time youre at the location, not the time you drove there.THIS IS ALL WHILE BEING PAID 7.65 AN HOUR. They don't train you, rather walk you through how to close or open for about 20 minutes and then expect you to do it flawlessly first time you do it. I can't tell you how many times I've heard managers speaking badly about employees in front of employees.

Pros

I was in upper management with Family Video from 2003-2014 and loved my first 8 years with the company. The last few years on the other hand the company has completely changed there customer service standards and also core beliefs. They know that the end is coming and they now completely treat employees poorly. I left on my own terms last year because I could not stand to see how far the company had fallen. The management turn over is extremely high due to the low pay and extremely high expectations for someone paid 28,000 dollars a year. Managers have to work mandatory weekends, nights, and at least 50 hours a week but most managers are putting in 60+. I could keep going on an on about the low pay for part time employees, the way the company gets around giving paid breaks, the way employees work off the clock at times, the low morale in the company in whole, etc. etc. etc. I would just advise to really think twice before you consider a career with this company.

Cons

Please read the above statement. Way too many to list.

Pros

Empowerment, communication, and overall managerial training is second to none. If you can ride this bull for at least 3 years, you may not get promoted, but you will find that you can work for anyone, under any conditions. You learn how to survive and thrive against some serious odds.

Cons

(Here is a real checklist guys) -SOME district managers have razor sharp shark teeth. I worked over 15,000 hours on this company's clock and know exactly what I'm talking about. I kept my head down, worked my A double S off (HONESTLY), greeted and treated customer like solid gold and managed every single penny as if it were my own, however, Family Video's upper management is interested in who leaders are only when the lights are on. - Not a fair assessment of job performance. - upper management is easily impressed with the fake and phoney individuals who are backstabbers, abusers, impostors, exploiters, and reckless people.
