Pros

ability to set your own career path, if skilled they provide the flexibility to move roles and gain broad range of experiences. Strong senior leadership, clear vision for company, MBM provides good guidance when properly understood.

Cons

Corporate can be slow and bureaucratic, particularly support roles or capabilities not tied closely to a business or P&L. Flexibility to define job responsibility and set your own career path can result in unclear roles or expectations. No visibility to incentive pay calculations. Tied to "value creation", where employees are expected to define how much value they created each year. The flexibility is intended to allow managers to reward top performers, looking holistically instead of only judging on a few metrics. In practice, incentives seem arbitrary - often lacking any clear justification for why a certain amount was awarded. The disconnect between performance and compensation creates a disincentive for strong performers.

Pros

Autonomy Remote work opportunities Decent Pay - only if you negotiate it

Cons

Zero training Poor leadership Lack of recognition Constant focus on “closing gaps” - you’ll spend all your time talking about less than 2% of revenue/profit Inconsistent bonus payouts with no metrics to understand how they arrive at a figure No clarity on how to achieve pay increases. Constant responsibilities added to your role that were not previously part of the role you were hired for.
